5 Reasons to Travel Solo

fImage014Solo travel is an exceptionally cool thing to do these days and there are a number of reasons why it’s better to be alone!

You can go where you want, when you want! Who wouldn’t want that. There is no one to consult or ask permission.

If you travel alone somewhere where you don’t know the local language then being alone could well be a fast track to becoming fluent!

When you are alone you are far more likely to embrace your surroundings and be aware of things happening around you. Just sitting on your own and people watching becomes a lot more satisfying.

If you have ever been on holiday with a partner or buddy then you’ll know how stressful it can be and many good friendships have probably suffered at the hands of long term travel.

I think this is the most important one. If you are on your own you are far more likely to be approachable than if you are in a group. This means meeting locals or fellow travellers is actually easier.

Side Note: If you do travel alone then safety might be more of an issue to ensure any travel medical cover is up to date.

Bangkok is number one solo travel destination

So it’s official and we all knew it anyway, Bangkok is the top destination for solo travelers in the World!

Bangkok is this year’s top city for solo travel, according to MasterCard’s Global Destination Cities Index.

Matthew Driver, president for Southeast Asia at MasterCard Inc, left, presents the world’s top travel award to Bangkok governor Sukhumbhand Paribatra on Monday.

The study looked at the highest international visitor numbers in 2013, with London, Paris, Singapore and New York rounding out the top five.

While London reached the top spot in 2012, it was edged this year by the slimmest of margins with only about 25,000 visitors separating the two, a difference of about 1%.

Thawatchai Arunyik, deputy governor for the domestic market at the Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT), said, “The Thailand tourism slogan ‘Amazing Thailand Always Amazes You’ is certainly apt as its capital, Bangkok, has emerged at the top of this year’s index.

“And the word ‘Amazing’ focuses on the interest of foreign tourists towards the country of Thailand. What a tribute this is to our city’s hospitality industry, the transport industry and food and beverage and catering industry and more.”

Remember that if you do travel to Thailand please ensure you have taken out suitable travelling insurance with a good level of medical cover.
